The article starts out with an interview of a homeless man who lives in Atlanta by the name of Brook. Unlike most homeless people, he prefers to stay away from homeless shelters and finds abandoned houses or even dumpsters to stay in. The reason he doesn't like homeless shelters because of how many people that steal when the others are sleeping. Brook has been jobless for 2 years, and during that time either in jail or on the streets. He hints that his way of obtaining money is illegal saying,"I aquire things for low and sell for high". Brook says the worst is when it is cold, and raining, he says the last time he went to a shelter was because of the rain. All across America homeless shelters are seeing an increase due to the cold weather. More than 21,000 people were counted as homeless in the counties surrounding Atlanta. Many shelters have had to deny people shelter due to the shelters already being packed.
Something that I don't understand is how their can be so many people that are homeless in such a small area. Especially now that with the weather I would think that people would do anything and everything to try and find a place to stay permanently, and not have to go back on the streets.
